In my preteens and early teens I was a farm hand. Then I was briefly an orderly in a general hospital and later at a psychiatric hospital. I worked à an extern at a city run nursing home and at a psychiatric hospital during medical school training. After graduation with a M.D. I worked as an internist, a gastroenterologist, and a hepatologist until I retired.

  1. I love to hear some stories about your days as an orderly! Wow, I love how you worked hard, studied hard, and then went on to have a career as a physician. Inspirational, for sure! I hope you are enjoying your retirement!!

    1. My days as an orderly were at the old Owen So General and Marine Hospital for two summers, and two summers at the London Psychiatric Hospital, both now defunct. I learned a lot about medicine and human nature in those jobs which stood me in good stead when I went on to medical school.

    2. My days as an orderly were two summers at the old Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital and two at the London Psychiatric Hospital, both now defunct. They help pay for my tuition at university and I learned a lot about medicine and human nature that prepared me for a life in practice.
